A Single-Cell Atlas of Synovial Aging

Our dataset provides the first high-resolution single-cell transcriptomic map of the murine synovium comparing young (2-3 months) and aged (18-22 months) mice.

You can explore the full dataset to explore cell populations, gene expression, and age-related changes through our interactive UCSC Cell Browser:

About the study

This study provides a detailed cellular map of the murine synovium during physiological aging, revealing selective loss and dysfunction of sublining fibroblasts and resident macrophages that together drive fibrosis independently of inflammation. These findings offer new insight into age-related joint vulnerability and open avenues for therapeutic strategies targeting tissue homeostasis.

We aim to provide a foundational reference for joint aging studies and therapeutic targeting beyond inflammation.
